Your stuff has finally flustered me to no end

After 6 days of screwing around with the Allpixel trying to install this stupid bibliopixel, 3 days now with no sleep, I have reached the only one possible conclusion that makes any sense. This just sucks!
Ive read and re read the documents and watched several of the videos over and over again. But its allways the same bs leading me right back to crap about things you no longer offer or simply dont use any longer! ...

Python 3 will not instsll. Ohh wait... Thats a lie i finally did get python 3 installed on 1 of the 5 times i eventually reinstalled the entire OS on my pi3
Then guess what I discoverd after finally installing python 3? Everything that sold me on the the all pixel like the easy to use right out of the box ideas and most importantly the GUI which MLabs had been very boastfull about. Stuff like the ideas of not having the headache of Ardunio IDE in a windows environment. That dream like ideology of a "lord of the rings" piece of heaven sanctuary by being able to have 1 board to rule them all... Pop in my bubble gum snapping pie hole.. ITS ALL GONE! ITS NO LONGER SUPORRTED BY PY3 arggg! MLabs you have a good story and i know that even with my disability, that sometimes i just have to work hard through many challenges but at this point I am throwing my hands in the air!

... Email first.. You think? Well i did however the attitude received in a response from adam haile had put me so far off I nearly said screw it then and. So no I dont need to ask help from someone who obviously knows a lot more then me, i emailed asking for help and advice right? So that was established right off the bat. But to have to be talked down to by him as well??? No thank you my family does that well enough for 1 lifetime, at least whenever they actually speak to me, that is.

Thanks M. R.

Madison,

First, I sincerely apologize that I made you feel I was talking down to you. Please know that all I meant by that response was simply that I was surprised, and actually a little excited, to hear from a customer that the AllPixelMini was still to large. I am genuinely interested in what it is that you are trying to create and wanted to work through the issues in order to either make the AllPixelMini work for you or find you another solution that would, ours or otherwise. As Tom noted: tone can sometimes be difficult over emails and looking back at my response I can see how there was room for interpretation as to my tone and intent.

Second, because we strive for 100% satisfaction here, I’ve already contacted Tindie, requesting that they fully refund your order. As it was already shipped I could not, unfortunately, refund it directly myself. Tindie simply gives me no way to do that, but I will most certainly let you know as soon as I hear back from them. We are in no way expecting you to return the AllPixelMini and would like to continue working with you, to solve any problems you have.

Please excuse Tom for being unaware of PixelWeb and expressing confusion over what GUI you were talking about. He joined the project after PixelWeb had already started to die and has never actively worked with it. But let me explain the situation with PixelWeb: With the last version of BiblioPixel (v2.x, whereas current is v3.4) I designed PixelWeb to make using BiblioPixel even easier. Unfortunately, no one used it. It was a massive project that required a great deal of time to maintain (mainly maintain compatibility with the ever changing BiblioPixel). So when Tom and I started designing the improved BiblioPixel v3.0, I looked at all the data I had on PixelWeb and it was quickly clear that almost no one actually used it. So, in the interest of making BiblioPixel better without the baggage of a product that no one was using, we officially dropped support for PixelWeb in BiblioPixel v3.0 (Which was also when we dropped support for Python 2, so it seemed like a good time).

The fact that PixelWeb being deprecated was not immediately clear is entirely our fault. BiblioPixel and it’s surrounding projects has moved so quickly, especially over the last 18 months. We strive to keep the documentation as up to date and clear as possible, but things to fall through the cracks sometimes, especially with older projects like PixelWeb. We’ve called out that it was no longer supported in various places, but clearly not all of them. I’m doing an audit through all the related documentation today to make sure there’s nothing else I’ve missed… even going through all the YouTube videos and updating descriptions.

If you would still like to use PixelWeb, however, it’s possible and only requires Python 2.7. pip install pixelweb should automatically install everything you need (including BiblioPixel of the right version) to get you started. I do, however, recommend going with the latest BiblioPixel as using PixelWeb and BiblioPixel 2.x is very limiting in comparison.

As for Python 3 on the Raspberry Pi, can you give me more details on which version of the Raspberry Pi OS (and on which version of the Raspberry Pi hardware) you are running? The latest Raspbian should already have Python 3.5 pre-installed I believe. You just have to use python3 and pip3 instead of python and pip.

Again, my sincerest apologies for any undue stress caused. If you are willing to still work with us, I’m sure that we can find a solution to any problem you have.
